This plate is on the rear of the drivers side door

1972 and 1973 Dodge Trucks
1st letter indicates model
D = 2 wheel drive
W = 4 wheel drive
The 2nd character indicates the series
1 = 100 (1/2 ton)
2 = 200 (3/4 ton)
3 = 300 (1 ton)
The 3rd number indicates the body code
1 = conventional cab
2 = crew cab
3 = conv cab utiline
4 = conv cab sweptline
5 = crew cab utiline
6 = crew cab sweptline
The 4th character indicates the GVW
A = 6000 lbs or less
B = 6000 - 10000 lbs
The 5th character indicates the engine
B = 225-1 series
C = 225-2 series
E = 318-1 series
F = 360
G = 318-3 series
J = 400
K = 361-2 series
L = 361-3 series
M = 361-4 series
N = 413-1
P = 413-2
The 6th number indicates the model year
2 = 1972 H series
3 = 1973 J series
The 7th number indicates the assembly plant
J = Windsor
N = Burt road
S or V = warren
u or x = Missouri
The last six digits are the sequential serial number


1974 - 1979 Dodge Trucks (D50 not included)
1st 1 or 2 letters indicates model (2nd character indicates the series
1 = 100 (1/2 ton) 2 = 200 (3/4 ton) 3 = 300 (1 ton))

AD = 2 wheel drive ram charger
PD = 2 wheel drive trail duster
W = 4 wheel drive pickup
AW = 4 wheel drive ram charger

The 2nd number indicates the body type

The 3rd character indicates the GVW (Confliting data here email any confirmed corrections)
A = 6,000 lbs or less
B = 6,000 - 10,000 lbs (1974 - 1977)
C = 6,000 - 11,500 lbs (1978)
C = 10,001 - 14,000 lbs (1979)
J = 6,000 - 8,500 lbs (1979)
K = 8,501 - 10,000 lbs (1979)
The 4th character indicates the engine

B = 225-1 series
